Le Chemin du retour: Synopsis
Camille Leclair (Karine Adrover, Rhinoceros Hunting in Budapest) is the star of "Bonjour!", a morning news programme in Paris. She has a strained relationship with her mother, Mado (Violaine Barret), but adores her aged grandmother, Louise (Fabienne Mai). Camille is hurt and confused by the frustrating mystery surrounding her grandfather, cabinetmaker Antoine Leclair, who disappeared in Les Cévennes mountains in Southern France during World War II. After her grandmother's death, Camille goes on a quest to uncover the truth about her grandfather: was he a member of the Maquis who died honourably? Or was a he a traitor who betrayed the Resistance to the Nazis after all?
Supporting Camille in her quest are her co-host Bruno (Denis Chérer, Un Vrai Bonheur), who hides the torch he carries for her behind exaggerated buffoonish behaviour, Rachid (Kamel Belghazi, Le Grand Voyage) a journalist of Algerian descent who is newly arrived from Marseilles and having family problems of his own, and Montreal journalist Hélène (Véronique Baylaucq). All of their careers are in jeopardy when Camille takes an unannounced sabbatical from work to pursue the truth about her grandfather.
Camille's quest for the truth will take her from the Cévennes mountains, to the port city of Marseille in the south of France, and finally exotic Casablanca in Morocco. And along the way, Camille will learn important lessons about herself as well as her grandfather.
